New Paper Published on EPM

Friday, January 13th, 2012

A paper has been published on the trial drug Oroquin-10 and the use of the stall-side antibody test strips.  Published in International Journal of Applied Research in Veterinary Medicine.  Rapid diagnosis of EPM has always been an issue.  The UC Davis test takes 7-10 days to get results back, and measures antibodies to protozoa that don’t cause EPM.  The Multiplex strip is specific to Sarcocystis neurona, and is performed at the barn, while the vet is looking at the horse.  The vet can perform a nerological exam, rule out other diseases, AND perform the antibody test while at the horse.  This is a major step forward in diagnostics.  The test packs are available from Prota.

I just got done watching the Webinar “A Novel Strategy for Treatment of and Protection Against EPM.”  It looks like the research on EPM has come a long ways…and has a long ways to go.  Fudge is hoping for the vaccine(s).  The quantity of treatment successes are far better than with the drugs that Fudge took.  I did like the picture on the last slide of the person dancing on the bar.

The webinar was recorded, and is available here:  “A Novel Strategy for Treatment of and Protection against EPM”

Just one question…Who came up with the name “Pathogenes Inc. Multiplex Sarcocystis neurona Antibody Detection Pack?”

The New Phone Book’s Here! The New Phone Book’s Here!

Saturday, September 3rd, 2011

When the box arrived on the porch this morning, I yelled, “The New Phone Book’s Here!  The New Phone Book’s Here!  Now Fudge is Somebody”  My 15 yo daughter looked like she would die in front of the FedEx driver.  She asked what I was yelling about.  I said the movie with Steve Martin.  She asked who Steve Martin was.  Is, honey, is; he’s not dead yet.

“The Jerk” starring Steve Martin

Just as Navin R. Johnson was excited about the new phone books, I was excited about the new strip test.  Now I can keep an eye on Fudge’s titer level.  If the strip goes positive, I know I’ve got problems.  Just think, if I had one of these strips before I purchased Fudge…Nevermind, I wouldn’t have Fudge now if I had had a strip back then.  www.Prota-usa.com
